Elementary Math Methods I (ED 309)

This course examines mathematics content and pedagogy for teaching grades K-3, emphasizing inquiry-based learning and Number Talks. Candidates learn to assess student understanding, analyze data, and design conceptually based lessons focused on counting, base-ten operations, and algebraic thinking. The course integrates state and national standards, learning trajectories, and effective assessment and instructional practices to support young learners' mathematical development. NOTE: Required Field Experience Hours: 6 hours of participation in the teaching of numeracy in grades K-3. Prerequisite: ED 200 and 240 and admission to the Educator Preparation Provider (EPP)
